Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Cleaner

As a Cleaner at a health facility, your job is very important. You are responsible for keeping the clinic clean, hygienic, and safe for patients, staff, and visitors. Your daily tasks will include:

General Cleaning and Housekeeping

You will be expected to perform standard cleaning duties such as:

  • Sweeping and mopping floors
  • Dusting furniture and equipment
  • Polishing surfaces
  • Scrubbing areas that need deep cleaning
  • Cleaning windows and walls
  • Removing refuse and waste
  • Keeping all areas neat and tidy

A clean environment helps to stop the spread of illnesses and infections. This is why your work will be so valuable.

Waste and Linen Management

You will also assist in effective waste management, making sure that waste is separated, handled, and disposed of correctly according to health and safety rules. Linen management, including handling dirty and clean linen correctly, is part of maintaining hygiene in the clinic.

Safe Use and Storage of Cleaning Materials

Another important duty is to make sure that cleaning materials and equipment are properly used and stored. This helps prevent accidents and makes sure supplies are not wasted.

You will also need to be able to operate cleaning equipment and machinery used in a clinic environment. Training will often be provided, but you should be willing to learn.
