Patroller – N4 Platinum Highway

Location: N4 (Only applications from bona fide residents of Brits, Ga-Rankuwa, and Mmakau area will be accepted. Proof of residence will be required.)
Reports to: Route service supervisor

Purpose:

To patrol the highway, monitor and remove damage and obstacles, respond to incidents and crashes, and record these according to company procedures. The role includes reporting any damaged or missing road furniture, fencing, pavements, or anything that may endanger road users. The position also involves transporting passengers or staff safely on the N1/N4 Platinum Highway.

Qualifications, skills, and required competencies:

  • Grade 12.
  • Valid unendorsed Code 08 driver’s license.
  • Minimum of two years of continuous experience as a competent driver.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and one other language.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Assertiveness and self-management.
  • Knowledge of road assets.
  • Physical ability to work on a rotating shift basis, drive a light vehicle, and remove obstacles from the road.
  • Ability to work in an environment that includes exposure to all weather conditions, with limited time spent in an office.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Complete shift handover and vehicle handover reports on time.
  • Patrol the highway twice per shift and remove obstacles from the road.
  • Identify and photograph damage to the road and road furniture.
  • Respond to calls and motor vehicle crashes, assisting stranded motorists and ensuring the road is clear of debris before reopening.
  • Report incidents to the control office and record details on the relevant forms.
  • Adhere to RIMS protocols and procedures.
  • Schedule vehicle maintenance and ensure the patrol vehicle is clean and neat at all times.
  • Collect Endangered Wildlife Trust data and remove roadkill animals.
  • Transport mail between various plazas and the head office.
  • Park the vehicle safely at incident scenes, setting up traffic accommodation measures as needed.
  • Assess incident scenes, provide situation reports to the communications office, and communicate with other role-players on the scene.
  • Assess and report details including route, direction, location, affected lanes, vehicles involved, and patient injuries.
  • Hand over scenes to authorities upon arrival and assist in managing traffic flow.
  • Complete all required forms with as much information as possible and take necessary photos.
