The University of the Free State Internship Programme (Contract Appointment)

The University of the Free State invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their one-year Internship Programme (Contract Appointment). The closing date for applications is 14 December 2025. If you want real work experience, especially in the accounting and procurement field, this internship could be the big first step you’ve been waiting for.

What Makes This UFS Internship Worth Your Attention

Many young people struggle to find their first job because companies want experience. This is why internships like the one offered by UFS are important. They give you the chance to learn in a real workplace while being trained by professionals who know exactly what skills are needed. This UFS internship is based at the Bloemfontein Campus, which means you will be working at one of South Africa’s well-known universities while boosting your career in a professional office environment.

The internship runs for one full year, giving you enough time to learn, practice, and grow your confidence. It is perfect for someone who has a qualification but has never worked before and needs that “first break” to enter the working world.

Important Application Rules You Must Follow

UFS is clear about how applications should be submitted, and ignoring these rules will get your application rejected. All applications must be sent through the official UFS vacancy portal. Applications sent through any other platform will not be looked at.

The system only allows a maximum of eight attachments. If you have many documents, you should merge them into fewer files before uploading to avoid errors. UFS also warns that incomplete applications will not be considered, so make sure everything required is included.

Documents You Must Upload

To make your application complete, you need to submit the following:

  • A detailed CV
  • Copies of your qualifications or official proof of qualifications
  • SAQA accreditation if your qualification is foreign
  • A copy of your ID or passport (for foreign nationals)

These documents help the university confirm your identity and check that you meet the requirements.

What You Will Be Doing During the Internship

During your year at UFS, you will work mainly with the purchasing and vendor registration divisions. These departments help the university with buying goods and services. You will also work with the financial system used by the university, which helps you gain skills that are valuable in many workplaces.

Main Daily Tasks

  • Assisting with new purchase orders
  • Helping with new vendor registrations
  • Creating purchase orders on PeopleSoft Financials
  • Closing and processing purchase orders
  • Handling procurement enquiries and assisting visitors or staff who need help

These tasks will teach you how to work with financial systems, manage documents, communicate professionally, and support a busy office environment.

Requirements You Must Meet Before Applying

UFS has clear rules about who can apply for this internship. These rules make sure the opportunity is given to someone who truly needs experience.

Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or B.Tech on NQF Level 7 in accounting
  • You must not be studying full-time
  • You must be a South African citizen or permanent resident
  • You must not have participated in any internship or learnership before
  • You must have no formal work experience
  • You must be willing to sign an internship/learnership agreement with UFS
  • You must be available for the full one-year period

If you meet these requirements, you have a good chance of being considered.
