What the Role Is All About

As a TMM Operator Assistant, you’ll be helping drill rig, roofbolter, and LHD operators to carry out important production tasks. You’ll also be trained and developed to handle equipment safely and support smooth operations underground.

This position reports to the Miner or a nominated supervisor, and you’ll be a key part of ensuring operations run safely, efficiently, and according to set standards.

Key Duties You’ll Perform

Here’s what you’ll be doing daily:

• Assist Equipment Operators: Help set up machinery like rigs and bolters and assist with installing lifter tubes, pumps, and trailing cables underground.
• Support Production: Relieve operators during breaks or absences and operate machinery (rig, LHD, roofbolter) when required – once fully licensed and trained.
• Maintenance Assistance: Conduct pre-shift checks, grease moving parts, replace consumables, and report breakdowns or faults.
• Safety First: Follow the mine’s lock-out procedures when machines are faulty and ensure all safety standards are maintained.
• Daily Monitoring: Keep an eye on the machine’s performance and alert supervisors about any issues.

What You Need to Apply

This job doesn’t require a Matric certificate – just a solid work ethic, practical experience, and basic qualifications.

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate
• Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence
• Must have completed a relevant approved training programme
• At least 3 months practical experience in one or more of the following roles:
  • Drill Rig Operator
  • LHD Operator
  • Roofbolter Operator
• Must be willing and able to work in an underground mining environment
