You’ll help with lawn care, gardening, landscaping, pitch preparation, and keeping UJ’s grounds clean and beautiful.

🔧 Key Duties You’ll Perform

You’ll be responsible for keeping the university’s grounds in top condition. Your work will be hands-on and physically active, and you’ll make a real difference every day.

🌳 Garden & Grounds Work:

Mow lawns and prepare soil
Plant, weed, prune trees and flowers
Use tools like mowers, trimmers, blowers
Maintain parking areas, walkways, and fountains
Remove trash, rake leaves, and sweep grounds

🏏 Sports Field & Pitch Care:

Prepare and maintain sports pitches (e.g., cricket fields)
Make sure turf is safe and ready for play
Set up and mark out playing areas
Help install or fix equipment like sprinklers

🧰 Tool & Equipment Handling:

Use garden tools and small machines
Make small equipment repairs
Clean and store tools safely

🌺 Landscaping:

Follow landscaping plans
Plant flowers and create borders
Water lawns, trees, and gardens

🦺 Health, Safety & Teamwork:

Keep work areas clean and safe
Use safety gear and follow rules
Work well in a team and follow instructions
Provide helpful and respectful service

✅ Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this job, you must have:

Grade 12 / Matric (NQF Level 4)
3 years’ experience in gardening, groundskeeping, or pitch preparation
Experience with cricket pitch care is essential

💡 Recommendations (Advantageous, Not Required)

Code 8 driver’s license
Experience in sports ground preparation
Ability to handle tools and equipment safely
