UKZN Opens 14 Assistant Fees Officer Posts – A Short-Term Opportunity to Work at a Top University

The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Assistant Fees Officer Vacancies (14 Posts) within the Finance Division. These positions are offered on a 3-month contract basis and are available in Durban (10 posts) and Pietermaritzburg (4 posts). What the Assistant Fees Officer Role Is About

Key Areas of Responsibility

Student Fee Administration

Assistant Fees Officers will support the effective management of student fee accounts. This includes ensuring that fees are captured correctly, payments are reflected on the system, and any errors are identified and resolved quickly.

Debtors and Accounts Receivable Support

A major part of the role involves working with Student Debtors (SD) and Accounts Receivable (AR) systems. Officers will assist in managing outstanding balances, monitoring debt, and supporting collection processes in line with university policies.


Financial Control and Compliance Duties

Supporting Internal Controls

The role requires assisting with the implementation of internal control measures to ensure compliance with the approved minimum control framework. This helps protect the university’s financial systems and ensures accurate reporting.

Cost Control and Efficiency

Assistant Fees Officers will also support initiatives aimed at improving service delivery and reducing unnecessary costs. This includes working efficiently, following procedures, and ensuring accurate financial records.


Customer Service and Query Resolution

Working with Students and Stakeholders

The role involves regular interaction with students, parents, and internal departments. Assistant Fees Officers must provide clear, professional, and helpful responses to financial queries.

Good communication skills are essential, as the role requires dealing with people at different levels and handling sensitive financial matters calmly and professionally.

Resolving Financial Queries

Officers will assist in resolving fee-related questions, payment issues, and account concerns. This helps improve the overall experience for students and supports smooth university operations.


Minimum Requirements to Apply

Educational Requirements

  • Matric with Accounting, plus
  • One-year Commerce Diploma

Experience Requirements

  • At least 12 months experience in a computerised work environment
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles and reconciliations
  • Experience working with spreadsheets, MS Word, and online data processing systems
  • Experience dealing with people at all levels, with a strong focus on customer service
