UNISA is looking for Independent Contractors (Markers) to assess student assignments and exams in the Department of African Languages. This is a remote, flexible opportunity for professionals with the right skills. As an Independent Marker, you’ll help maintain academic excellence and support students in mastering their courses.

📌 Job Responsibilities

As an Independent Marker, your main role will be to assess student work fairly and accurately while following UNISA’s policies. Your responsibilities include:

Marking student assignments & exams with accuracy and fairness
Providing constructive feedback to help students improve
Ensuring assessments comply with UNISA’s guidelines and anti-plagiarism policies
Maintaining confidentiality while handling student assessments
Meeting deadlines for marking tasks
Applying ODeL principles to ensure smooth assessment processes
Supporting student learning through unbiased and clear feedback

This role requires strong attention to detail, ethics, and time management skills to ensure students receive the best possible support.

✅ Who Should Apply? (Minimum Requirements)

To qualify for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

🔹 A relevant qualification (NQF Level 9 or 10) in:

  • IsiZulu Home Language
  • Xitsonga Home Language
  • Sesotho Home Language
  • Sesotho sa Leboa or related fields

🔹 At least five years of teaching experience at a TVET College or University
🔹 Strong assessment and marking skills
🔹 Fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
🔹 Digital literacy – must be comfortable using online learning platforms
🔹 Own laptop or desktop computer with internet access (UNISA does not provide these)
🔹 Knowledge of Moodle (Learning Management System) is a plus!

Strong knowledge of African languages & assessment procedures
Excellent communication skills – reading, writing & listening
Attention to detail & ability to provide constructive feedback
Ability to manage time effectively and meet strict deadlines
Understanding of academic integrity & plagiarism policies
Independent & self-motivated – must be able to work remotely
Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
