Transnet Freight Rail is calling on hardworking and dedicated individuals to apply for their General Worker Vacancies (X40 Posts). The closing date for applications is 6 June 2025.
Are you looking for your first job? Or maybe you’re ready to get back into the working world and want to build a strong future? Then this opportunity from Transnet Freight Rail might be just what you need. Transnet is hiring 40 General Workers in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Eastern Cape, and they are offering a fixed-term contract starting from 1 July 2025 until 31 March 2026.
This job is perfect for anyone who enjoys hands-on work, working in a team, and helping to keep South Africa’s railway system running smoothly. You don’t need fancy qualifications or years of experience—just a strong work ethic, a basic education (Grade 9), and the willingness to learn.
If you get selected, you’ll become part of Transnet’s RNC Construction Team. Your job will involve helping build and fix the Overhead Track Equipment (OHTE)—the equipment that powers trains across South Africa. Your work will be important to make sure trains can run safely and on time.
This job also connects with the kind of work done by Eskom in terms of power lines and infrastructure, so it can lead to more technical roles in the future.
As a General Worker at Transnet, you’ll be doing tasks like:
To succeed in this job, you’ll need to:
✅ Minimum Grade 9 school report
✅ At least 6 months of experience in any similar work is a plus, but not required
✅ Physically fit and able to work in different conditions
✅ Willing to work at heights and in small spaces
✅ Good basic communication skills (especially in English)
✅ Must be able to pass a medical fitness test
✅ Must be ready to work extra hours or weekends if needed
Make sure you include all of the following, or your application won’t count:
Applications must be dropped off physically (not online). Place your full application into the Application Box at this address:
📍 Transnet RNC Depot
No. 85 Burman Road
Deal Party, Port Elizabeth
📝 Important: Write the job title (“General Worker”) clearly on your application envelope.
Only people who are shortlisted will be contacted for interviews or next steps. So make sure your application is neat, complete, and dropped off before the deadline.
Don’t wait until the last minute. Apply early to avoid disappointment. Transnet is one of the biggest and most respected companies in South Africa, and this is your chance to start your journey with them.
Working at Transnet means being part of something big. You’ll be helping move goods and people across the country. This job could also help you get more experience and open doors for better roles in the future—especially in engineering, electrical work, or construction.
If you’re ready to prove yourself, work hard, and grow your skills, then don’t miss this opportunity.
