Are you under 35, passionate about healthcare, and looking for a real opportunity to change your life? Ampath Laboratories, one of the leading pathology services in South Africa, is offering fully accredited learnerships for Phlebotomy Technicians for 2025/2026. This programme runs over 24 months, and successful applicants will receive professional training, practical experience, and a monthly stipend.

This programme is part of Ampath’s Youth Development Programme, giving young people a chance to break into the medical field with real qualifications and job prospects. If you’ve completed Grade 12 (or are in Grade 12 now) and have a heart for helping others, this is the perfect opportunity to begin your journey in healthcare.

What’s This Learnership All About?

The Ampath Phlebotomy Learnership Programme trains you to become a Phlebotomy Technician—someone who collects blood samples, supports lab staff, and helps doctors with accurate test results. You’ll learn both online and in real labs located in Centurion and Westridge (Durban).

During this time, you’ll:

  • Learn through online classes (Monday to Friday)
  • Get hands-on training in real Ampath Care Centres
  • Work with experienced healthcare professionals
  • Be prepared to register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)

Minimum Requirements: Who Can Apply?

If you’re thinking of applying, here’s what you need:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be 35 years old or younger
  • Have Matric with at least:
    • 50% in Maths or Maths Literacy
    • 50% in Life Sciences (Biology)
    • 50% in English
  • If you’re still in Grade 12, you can apply using your Grade 11 final results
  • You must not have any qualification above NQF Level 4
  • You need access to a smartphone or tablet with internet for online training
  • Be willing to attend full-time and possibly relocate or travel daily to Ampath sites

What You’ll Do as a Learner

If accepted, you’ll be busy learning and working like a professional. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Attending online and practical classes every weekday
  • Collecting blood and other lab samples safely and respectfully
  • Assisting in the lab by handling samples and following proper procedures
  • Keeping records and following patient safety rules
  • Helping with stock and equipment checks
  • Ensuring infection control standards are always followed
  • Working with a healthcare team and showing care and empathy to patients

You’ll be learning how to care for others while also building a strong foundation for a career in medicine.

What Ampath Looks for in You

To succeed in this programme, you need more than good grades. Ampath is looking for people who:

  • Can manage their time well and stay focused
  • Are willing to learn and take on new challenges
  • Know the basics of using a computer or smartphone
  • Show respect, professionalism, and compassion in all situations

These qualities are what make great healthcare workers, and Ampath wants to help you grow them.

  • You’ll receive real clinical experience from Day 1
  • You’ll be mentored by some of South Africa’s top professionals
  • You’ll be paid a monthly stipend while you train
  • You’ll open doors to real employment in the healthcare sector
  • You’ll get a chance to serve your community by helping patients every day

This is more than just a learnership – it’s your path to a career that truly matters.
