Assistant Firefighters Wanted in Bergrivier Municipal Area

The Bergrivier Municipality is hiring Assistant Firefighters for four towns: Piketberg, Porterville, Velddrif, and Redelinghuys. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to serve their community and gain experience in firefighting and disaster management.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12
  • Age: Between 18 and 35 years
  • Driving License: Code B or C (advantageous but not mandatory)
  • Languages: Competence in at least two official languages of the Western Cape (Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa – Read, Write, and Speak)
  • Criminal Record: No criminal record with a valid police clearance (not older than 3 months)

  • Physical and Mental Fitness: Must be in good physical and mental health
  • Preference: Given to candidates with basic firefighting training
  • Teamwork: Must be able to work well in a team
  • Responsibility: High level of responsibility
  • Overtime: Willingness to work overtime and on weekends as needed
  • Residence: Must reside in the Bergrivier Municipal Area

Duties:

  • Perform basic firefighting and disaster management functions.

Compensation:

Rate: R250 per day

Working Hours: 40 hours per week with a willingness to work weekends as needed

Contract Period: 01 November 2024 – 31 June 2025 (or as agreed)

Recruitment Process:

  1. Fitness Test – Requirements:
    • Complete a 2.4km run in under 15 minutes
    • Maximum sit-ups in 1 minute
    • Maximum push-ups in 1 minute
    • Carry 2x25kg foam cans over 50 meters in under 60 seconds
    • Drag a 45mmx30m fire hose under pressure over 30 meters in under 36 seconds
  2. Interview Session
    • Candidates must not be afraid of confined spaces, heights, water, blood, or corpses.
    • Willingness to work weekends if required by the duty schedule.

Tuesday, 29 October 2024, at 09:00
Location: Rhinopark Sportsground, Sarel Cilliers Street, Piketberg.
Note: Latecomers will not be tested.

Candidates must wear comfortable training clothes.
