What Does a Warehouse Operative Do?

As a Warehouse Operative at DHL, your role is all about making sure stock arrives and leaves the warehouse correctly. You will check all items carefully, record any problems with stock, and keep everything safe and well organized. Moving goods with care, loading and unloading trucks, and following clear safety rules are all part of your daily work.

Your job helps make sure customers receive the right products undamaged and on time. You’ll also operate forklifts and other warehouse machinery, so safety and attention to detail are really important.

Main Duties You’ll Handle

• Be honest and proud of your work while focusing closely on details.
• Check forklifts every day and complete checklists to ensure they are safe to use.
• Follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in all tasks.
• Use forklifts and other equipment properly, reporting any defects quickly.
• Keep your workspace clean and maintain forklift hygiene.
• Follow safety standards and support any changes needed for better work.
• Report any stock problems, damages, or unsafe behavior immediately.
• Stack, label, sort, parcel, and wrap goods carefully to avoid damage.
• Inspect stock to check quality and ensure nothing is missing or broken.
• Handle all materials gently to avoid damages.
• Validate shipping documents like GRVs, COAs, and invoices before unloading.
• Unload pallets and place stock correctly into shelving units.
• Coordinate truck unloading smoothly and ensure all paperwork is done.
• Work safely within a busy environment while following 5S workplace organization principles.
• Take part in stock counts and site improvement projects as needed.
• Carry out additional tasks assigned by warehouse management.

What You Need to Get This Job

• A Matric certificate (Grade 12).
• A valid forklift certificate and license.
• 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar warehouse or logistics role.
• Ability to work in an environment that requires physical effort.
• Good command of English for communication and documentation.
