About the Role – What You’ll Do

As a CCTV Operator, you’ll be responsible for monitoring security systems, observing suspicious behavior, and ensuring all operations follow both the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001 and Dis-Chem’s strict security protocols.

You’ll be part of the first line of defense against theft, vandalism, and safety breaches at one of South Africa’s largest pharmacy groups.


Key Duties Include:

  • Watching CCTV footage to spot criminal behavior or irregular activities
  • Monitoring alarms and reacting swiftly during emergencies
  • Controlling access to the distribution center for both vehicles and pedestrians
  • Alerting on-site security guards when suspicious activity is observed
  • Reporting signs of damage, unauthorized access, or illegal activity
  • Assisting in opening and closing of the site
  • Patrolling virtually using cameras, especially after hours or during night shifts
  • Recording and documenting all unusual events in the occurrence book
  • Responding to calls, texts, or emails linked to security alerts
  • Helping emergency response teams during evacuation or crises
  • Supporting internal investigations and audits
  • Enforcing site rules to minimize losses from theft, accidents, or damage

Minimum Requirements to Apply:

You must meet the following to be considered:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • PSIRA Grade C certification
  • 1 to 3 years of CCTV control room experience in a warehouse/distribution setting
  • At least 1 year of experience in a pharmaceutical warehouse (preferred)
  • Hikvision camera system experience (advantageous)

Skills & Competencies Needed:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong observation and interpretation skills
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of industry-standard surveillance protocols
  • Self-discipline and the ability to stay focused for long periods
  • Sound judgment and the ability to escalate incidents correctly
  • Understanding of safety, emergency, and loss prevention practices
  • Professional and courteous behavior—especially when dealing with staff or suppliers

Special Job Conditions:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must have no criminal record or bad credit history
  • Must be willing to work overtime or be on standby when required
  • Must have own reliable transport and a valid driver’s license
