What Is the Dispensary Support Learnership Programme?

This learnership is a full-time training opportunity that combines both classroom learning and on-the-job experience in a real pharmacy setting. You’ll be learning how to assist pharmacists, manage medicines, and help customers – all while getting paid and working toward a nationally recognised qualification.

By the end of the programme, you’ll be ready to take the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course and register with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC). You’ll have all the skills needed to work in a pharmacy, and you might even get offered a full-time job with Dis-Chem if you complete everything successfully.

What Will You Be Doing?

As a Dispensary Support Learner, your main job will be to help out in the pharmacy and support the team. Here’s what your tasks might include:

Helping prepare and label medicines
Assisting with medicine sales (under supervision)
Managing medicine stock on the shelves
Interpreting prescriptions and understanding medication use
Working with patient scripts and helping in the call centre
Making sure all medicine is stored safely
Helping with scheme authorisations for chronic conditions
Supporting the team with paperwork and system updates

Everything you do will be under the guidance of a professional pharmacist, so you’ll learn as you go.

Do You Qualify?

To apply for this learnership, you must meet the following requirements:

You must have a Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
- Pure Mathematics (not Maths Literacy)
- Life Sciences or Physical Science
- Minimum average of 50% across all subjects
You must be a South African citizen
You must not already have a pharmacist assistant qualification
You must not be registered with the SAPC
Be willing to commit to the full learnership period
Be able to work shifts, including weekends
