Dis-Chem Pharmacies is inviting qualified applicants to apply for Retail Store Assistant positions at their Blue Route store. This role is about more than just working on the shop floor. As a Retail Store Assistant, you’ll help with both the day-to-day running of the store and important administrative tasks that keep things organised behind the scenes. Your goal will be to ensure customers have an excellent shopping experience while supporting the store’s operations.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your job will combine customer service, store organisation, and administration.
Customer Service & Communication
- Greet customers in a friendly and professional way.
- Help customers find what they’re looking for and answer their questions.
- Handle customer compliments and complaints, making sure they’re passed on to management.
- Follow up with customers when they need feedback or extra assistance.
- Keep up with the store’s required turnover per hour rate.
Point of Sale (POS) & Cash Handling
- Manage cash floats and ensure there are no shortages or overages.
- Process refunds and return transactions accurately.
- Handle “back shopping” (returning unwanted products to shelves) and returned goods correctly.
- Order and receive branch change so cashiers always have enough coins and notes to serve customers quickly.
Stock & Deliveries
- Check deliveries against invoices to ensure accuracy.
- Help the Receiving Manager prepare claims for the Distribution Centre.
- Keep a close eye on high-risk stock to prevent losses.
- Ensure that all stock handling follows company policy.
Daily Store Administration
- Prepare the run reconciliation daily.
- Keep documents like float records, petty cash, and cash-on-hand logs organised.
- Maintain effective communication between different store departments.
Minimum Requirements
To apply for this position, you’ll need:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook). SAP experience is a plus.
- Previous retail work experience.

- Honest, trustworthy, and reliable.

Special Job Conditions
- You must be a South African citizen.
- You’ll need a clear criminal and credit record (MIE checks will be done).
- Having a driver’s license and/or your own transport is required.
