What Is a Retail Store Assistant?

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As a Retail Store Assistant at Dis-Chem, your daily tasks will include a wide range of responsibilities. These duties help ensure customers receive excellent service and that store operations run efficiently.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting customers in a friendly and professional manner
  • Handling customer compliments and complaints and reporting them to management
  • Answering customer stock questions and resolving issues quickly
  • Communicating with customers when feedback or updates are needed
  • Referring customers to the correct departments when necessary
  • Meeting customer turnover targets per hour as set by the company
  • Managing shortages and overs at the point of sale, including cash floats
  • Processing refunds and returns correctly
  • Handling returned goods and back shopping properly
  • Checking deliveries and invoices to ensure accuracy
  • Supporting the Receiving Manager with Distribution Centre claims
  • Managing and controlling high-risk stock items
  • Preparing daily run reconciliations
  • Ordering and receiving change for cashiers to ensure smooth service
  • Keeping accurate records for floats, petty cash, and cash on hand
  • Maintaining good communication between relevant departments

Attention to detail is very important in this role, as mistakes can affect both customers and the business.
