What the Learnership Is All About

The Dis-Chem Dispensary Support Learnership Programme is officially registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC). Its goal is to train learners to complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course, a key qualification that opens doors in the pharmaceutical world.

Learners will spend time in real Dis-Chem pharmacies, gaining both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. After completing the programme and registering with the SAPC, you could even be offered a permanent job as a Pharmacist Assistant within the Dis-Chem Group.


What You’ll Do During the Learnership

Throughout the programme, you’ll take part in important pharmacy activities, including:

  • Assisting customers with over-the-counter medicines (Schedule 1).
  • Helping prepare and package non-sterile medicines under supervision.
  • Unpacking, organizing, and managing stock in the dispensary.
  • Interpreting prescriptions accurately as per SAPC standards.
  • Labelling, packing, and checking medications for patients.
  • Monitoring expiry dates and maintaining stock levels.
  • Assisting with chronic and medical aid authorizations.
  • Offering basic health information to customers.
  • Ensuring dispensary shelves are neat and fully stocked.

This programme is designed to prepare you for the real world of pharmacy work — professional, detailed, and focused on patient care.


Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this learnership, applicants must have:

  • Matric/Grade 12 certificate with:
    • Pure Mathematics
    • Physical Science or Life Science
  • At least 50% average across all subjects.

Skills You’ll Need

Dis-Chem is looking for learners who are eager, reliable, and ready to learn. You should have:

  • Good communication skills in English and one other South African language.
  • A friendly and professional attitude toward customers.
  • Attention to detail and basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
