Ekurhuleni West College Hospitality Trainee Position

Ekurhuleni West College invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Hospitality Trainee Position at its Germiston Campus. About the Opportunity

This is a fantastic chance for anyone with an N6 in Hospitality who wants to gain practical experience in the hospitality and catering field. The Hospitality Trainee role will give you hands-on exposure to kitchen operations, menu planning, food preparation, and event coordination. You’ll be part of a team that helps students, lecturers, and staff run smooth and professional hospitality services on campus.

This position at the Germiston Campus focuses on developing your skills in food service management, nutrition, and event planning, giving you a strong foundation to start your career in hospitality.

What You’ll Do as a Hospitality Trainee

Your role will involve working in a busy, learning-focused kitchen and assisting lecturers and students in their daily training activities. You will be responsible for:

  • Placing and managing orders for food and equipment.
  • Handling stock-taking for both ingredients and kitchen equipment.
  • Keeping stores organized and ensuring ingredients are issued correctly.
  • Planning nutritious menus for training and campus events.
  • Assisting lecturers with cooking demonstrations and practical classes.
  • Preparing and cooking meals for the campus crèche.
  • Communicating with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries and accurate quotations.
  • Helping to plan and manage campus events and functions.
  • Maintaining MSDS records (Material Safety Data Sheets) in the kitchen.
  • Keeping the kitchen’s health and safety documentation up to date.
  • Supervising students during functions, events, and restaurant days.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Hospitality Trainee post, applicants must have:

  • An N6 Certificate in Hospitality (a must-have qualification).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • A good understanding of basic nutrition, menu planning, and kitchen safety.
  • A professional attitude and willingness to learn from experienced staff members.

If you have already completed your 18-month internship or training period, please note that you should not apply again, as this opportunity is for new trainees.
