About the Flight Operations Assistant Vacancy

FlySafair, operating under Safair Operations, is recruiting a Flight Operations Assistant to join its Head Office in Bonaero Park.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Operations Control Centre Manager and will play an important role in supporting the airline’s daily flight operations. The position involves preparing flight plans, monitoring aircraft movements, coordinating with flight crews, and ensuring flights operate safely and efficiently.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Flight Operations Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing and distributing Operational Flight Plans for every FlySafair flight
• Filing Air Traffic Services (ATS) Flight Plans
• Supporting flight planning through:
  • Route selection
  • Alternate airport selection
  • Fuel planning
  • Reviewing NOTAMs
  • Monitoring weather conditions
  • Considering MEL/CDL requirements
  • Managing operational constraints
• Monitoring CTOT (Calculated Take-Off Time) and ATFM (Air Traffic Flow Management)
• Responding through Operations Control Centre communication channels
• Monitoring the status of all aircraft and flights during your shift
• Managing non-normal operations according to company procedures
• Distributing daily flight movement reports and updates
• Assisting with alternative flight plans during operational disruptions
• Keeping relevant teams informed about aircraft status
• Communicating company-related delays to the appropriate departments
• Coordinating with:
  • Flight crews
  • Engineering teams
  • Management
  • Flight Line
  • Crew Control
  • Aircraft Maintenance Control (AMC)
• Assisting with planning:
  • Additional scheduled flights
  • Charter flights
  • Training flights
  • Maintenance flights
• Ensuring compliance with aviation safety and security regulations

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent qualification
• At least 2 years of experience in an aviation operations environment
• Good knowledge of flight planning and dispatch procedures
• Good understanding of aviation regulations
• Knowledge of aviation operational environments
• Ability and willingness to work shifts
• Availability to work weekends and public holidays

The following qualification will be an added advantage:

• Restricted Radiotelephony Licence
