🛡️ What Does a Reaction Officer Do?

A Reaction Officer plays a very important role in protecting people, properties, and assets. This is not a sit-at-a-desk job. You’ll be out in the field, taking action when alarms go off, when someone needs help, or when there’s trouble. It’s all about quick thinking, fast movement, and staying calm in pressure-filled situations.

You will also be the person who shows up first when something goes wrong—whether it’s a break-in, emergency, or suspicious activity. And when things get heated, you’re the one who stays cool, calms everyone down, and takes control.

🔍 Key Responsibilities

If you get hired, here’s what you’ll be doing:

• ⚡ React Fast: Respond quickly to alarms, calls, and emergency alerts.
• 🚶 Patrol Areas: Keep watch over certain areas, making sure everything stays safe.
• 🚨 Handle Incidents: If there’s a theft, emergency, or security problem—you’ll step in and sort it out.
• 👮 Team Up With Police: Work with law enforcement and emergency services when needed.
• 🧠 Solve Conflicts: Calm down tense situations before they get out of hand.
• 📝 Write Reports: Keep clear records of what happened during your shifts.
• 🤝 Help People: Support staff, visitors, or anyone who needs help with a security issue.

✅ What You’ll Need to Succeed

To qualify for this job, you must meet the following skills and experience requirements:

• 🧠 Sharp decision-making and quick thinking
• 🏃‍♂️ Physically fit and able to stay cool under pressure
• 🗣️ Good communication and people skills
• 🎥 Know how to use security alarms, cameras, and surveillance tools
• ⛑️ Some basic training in first aid or emergency response
• 🤝 Able to work alone or with a team
• 🛡️ Honest, dependable, and professional

🎓 Qualifications You Must Have

Make sure you have the following before applying:

• 📘 Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent
• 🪪 PSIRA registration – Grade C or higher
• 🛡️ At least 2 years’ experience working as an armed reaction officer
• 🚗 Valid driver’s license
• 🔫 Firearm competency for business purposes
• 🚫 No criminal record
