Johannesburg Water invites suitably qualified graduates to apply for their 2026 Internship Programme, offering two internship positions that will run for 24 months. The closing date for applications is 20 November 2025 at 16:00. Graduates who want hands-on experience in a public utility environment are encouraged to apply before the deadline.
Many graduates struggle to get their first real working experience after completing their studies. Johannesburg Water is giving unemployed graduates a rare chance to gain practical exposure in a professional public service setting. This programme is built to help young people learn, grow, and understand how a large water utility operates behind the scenes. It gives you the experience needed to build a strong career and prepares you for better opportunities in the future.
This internship is meant for individuals who are ready to learn, take responsibility, and use this chance to improve their skills. The 24-month duration allows participants to gain deep understanding instead of only surface-level experience, which makes this programme more valuable than many shorter internships.
Johannesburg Water is one of the largest water utility organizations in South Africa, responsible for providing clean water and wastewater services to millions of residents across Johannesburg. The company plays an important role in improving lives, maintaining infrastructure, and ensuring communities have reliable access to water.
For young graduates, this environment is an ideal place to learn how public utilities function, how services are managed, and what teamwork looks like in a large organisation. The internships offered each year support Johannesburg Water’s commitment to developing young talent and supporting the national goal of reducing youth unemployment.
The 2026 Internship Programme is aimed at unemployed South African graduates between 18 and 35 years old. The purpose is to provide meaningful workplace exposure, build practical skills, and prepare participants for future employment. The programme does not provide accommodation or transport support, so applicants must be able to travel to and from work on their own.
Johannesburg Water follows its Employment Equity Plan, giving preference to women and persons with disabilities. Candidates who have previously completed internships in the same fields will not be approved, as the programme aims to give fresh opportunities to new graduates.
