What Will You Do as a General Worker?

As a General Worker, your main task will be to support the water plant operations to meet all the planned targets. You will join your supervisor and team members to do a variety of tasks that help keep the water systems functioning properly. Your responsibilities include inspecting sites daily, troubleshooting operational issues, and making sure that all safety standards are followed.

You will be involved in different physical activities like cleaning equipment, operating valves, and removing waste and sludge. You’ll also perform tests on water quality and record the results as per company procedures. Your work will help ensure the water treatment process delivers good quality water on time, just as agreed with the clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with your supervisor to achieve operational targets for the water treatment plants.
  • Perform daily inspections of water sites, including screens, grit channels, aeration, clarifiers, and sump basins.
  • Help with problem-solving when there are operational challenges and report issues immediately to your supervisor.
  • Follow all company procedures, safety rules, and safety legislation to prevent accidents.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments to stay aware of safety measures.
  • Clean parts of the plant such as screens, grit chambers, and sludge beds.
  • Conduct water quality tests, including measurements like MLSS, DSVI, RAS, SS, PH, DO, chlorine levels, and flow rates.
  • Remove dried sludge from drying beds and waste from the plant.
  • Check chlorine levels and make sure the stock of chemicals is enough.
  • Open and close valves correctly to control water flow within the plant.
  • Follow safety and operational procedures during all tasks.

What You Need to Apply

  • Experience: At least one year working in a similar environment, ideally with experience in mining or construction, or water treatment plants.
  • Skills: Good communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary. You should be well-organized, observant, and able to plan your work efficiently.
  • Qualities: Team spirit, good listening skills, and the ability to work well in a team are important.
  • Physical Fitness: You must be physically and mentally fit, capable of performing manual work and working in a demanding environment.
  • Willingness to Work Shifts: You should be prepared for rotating shifts and overtime if needed.
  • Screening: You will need to pass criminal checks and health evaluations required by the company or client.
