KZN Department of Transport Hiring 200 Trainee Provincial Inspectors – Apply Now!

Build Your Future in Law Enforcement

The Trainee Provincial Inspector programme is designed to train and equip unemployed youth with the skills needed to make a real difference in KwaZulu-Natal. Successful candidates will receive two years of structured training at the Traffic Training College in Pietermaritzburg, after which they will be placed at various Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) stations across the province.

This programme goes beyond traffic regulation. It focuses on discipline, public service values, and technical skills, giving trainees the knowledge they need to promote road safety, reduce accidents, and enforce the law effectively.

Position Details

  • Position: Trainee Provincial Inspector

  • Salary: R193,359 per year (Level 04)
  • Duration: 2 Years (Full training provided)
  • Training Centre: Traffic Training College, Pietermaritzburg
  • Placement: Various RTI stations across KwaZulu-Natal

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this exciting opportunity, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Education:
    • A Senior Certificate (Matric) or equivalent (NQF Level 4).
  2. Driving Licence:
    • A valid Code B manual driving licence.
  3. Criminal Record:
    • Must not have a criminal record.
    • SAPS clearance will be done before appointment.
  4. Medical Fitness:
    • Submit a medical certificate (not older than 3 months) showing you are fit to perform strenuous exercise.
    • Successful candidates will also undergo a full medical exam at state expense.
  5. Age:
    • Not older than 35 years on the first day of enrolment.
  6. Citizenship:
    • Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
  7. Personal Traits:
    • Must be a fit and proper person with good conduct and a willingness to serve the public.

Skills and Competencies

To succeed in this role, candidates must have:

  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Excellent driving skills.
  • The ability to think independently and creatively.
  • A team-player attitude.
  • The ability to interpret and apply laws and policies correctly.

Key Duties

As a Trainee Provincial Inspector, you will be responsible for enforcing road and transport laws to keep KwaZulu-Natal roads safe. Some of your duties will include:

  • Enforcing road traffic and transport legislation.
  • Managing traffic flow in busy areas.
  • Safeguarding accident scenes and reporting hazardous locations.
  • Participating in road safety campaigns and speed testing operations.
  • Issuing fines and executing arrests when necessary.
  • Escorting abnormal vehicles and heavy loads.
  • Inspecting driver’s licences and vehicles at testing centres.
  • Ensuring compliance with traffic rules and regulations.

This role is physically demanding and requires discipline, focus, and a passion for road safety.
