If you are a young South African who is currently unemployed and looking for a real chance to gain work experience, this learnership could be exactly what you need. OUTsurance is offering a 12-month OSS Hastings Learnership designed for youth who are eager to learn, grow, and build a career in the Financial and Insurance industry, especially within a call centre environment.

This opportunity is not just about earning a stipend. It is about learning practical workplace skills, understanding how a professional company operates, and gaining experience that can open doors to future employment. OUTsurance is well known in South Africa for doing things differently, and this learnership reflects that same spirit.

About OUTsurance and Why This Learnership Matters

OUTsurance has been part of the South African insurance industry for over 24 years. During this time, the company has built a strong reputation for innovation, digital solutions, and putting people first. What makes OUTsurance stand out is its focus on both technology and human values.

The company believes that its success comes from its people. OUTsurance employees are known for their energy, teamwork, and positive attitude. This learnership gives young people a chance to be part of that culture while learning valuable skills that are needed in today’s job market.

What Is the OSS Hastings Learnership?

Understanding the Learnership Programme

The OSS Hastings Learnership is a structured, work-based learning programme. It is created specifically for unemployed youth who want to gain workplace experience. During the 12 months, learners will combine practical work experience with formal training.

Successful applicants will sign a fixed-term learnership agreement. This is not a permanent employment contract, but it is a recognised learning programme that helps participants gain real-world experience. Learners will receive a monthly stipend of R12 000, which helps cover basic living expenses while they focus on learning.

This learnership is ideal for young people who are interested in working in a call centre and want to build a career in the insurance or financial services industry.

Working Hours and Shift Structure

What Your Week Will Look Like

Learners must be willing to work shifts based on a set roster. The working hours are different from a normal Monday-to-Friday job, so flexibility is very important.

The shift structure includes:

  • Friday to Monday shifts, working 9 hours per day
  • Saturdays with 8-hour shifts
  • Sundays with 5-hour shifts
  • Two weekdays off during the week, which could be Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday
  • One full day per week dedicated to on-site training for a full qualification

This setup allows learners to gain both practical experience and formal training during the programme.

Public Holiday Expectations

Learners may be required to work on South African public holidays if they are scheduled on those days. The only exception is if the public holiday is observed in the United Kingdom. This helps learners understand how real call centre environments operate.

Skills and Personal Qualities OUTsurance Is Looking For

Competencies Needed to Succeed

OUTsurance is looking for learners who show strong personal and communication skills. The following competencies are very important:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build good relationships
  • Willingness to take initiative
  • Professional behaviour at all times
  • Ability to adapt to change and stay positive
  • Ability to multitask and handle pressure
  • Good communication skills, both spoken and written
  • Self-motivation and a strong desire to learn

These qualities are important because learners will interact with people daily and work in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Who Can Apply for This Learnership?

To be considered for the OSS Hastings Learnership, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be computer literate, especially in MS Office

This approach helps ensure that opportunities are shared fairly and that more young South Africans are given a chance to enter the working world.
