Why Join the Nedbank YES Youth Learnership?

Nedbank understands the important role youth play in shaping South Africa’s economy and future. Through the Youth Employment Service (YES) programme, Nedbank provides opportunities for unemployed young people to gain hands-on experience in the banking and financial services sector.

This learnership is ideal for individuals who want to:

  • Build real work experience in a professional environment
  • Develop skills that make you more competitive in the job market
  • Understand the operations of a leading South African bank
  • Grow confidence in communication, customer service, and financial processes

Participants will work for 12 months on a fixed-term contract and receive a monthly stipend to support basic living costs while gaining this invaluable experience.

What You’ll Do as a YES Learner

If your application is successful, you will be placed in the Nedbank Contact Centre at Umhlanga Rocks, Durban North. Your role may involve personal banking, private banking services, or collections, depending on the division you are allocated to.

Your daily duties will include:

  • Delivering excellent customer service via calls, emails, and SMS
  • Promoting Nedbank products while assisting clients
  • Handling collections, managing arrear accounts, and reducing risk for the bank
  • Upholding Nedbank’s core values: integrity, accountability, respect, and being client-focused
  • Contributing to your team’s success by sharing knowledge and supporting team members
  • Participating in team activities and helping improve service delivery

This role is designed to give you exposure to real banking operations and help you develop skills that are valuable in any professional setting.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible for the Nedbank YES Learnership, you must:

  • Have a Grade 12 National Senior Certificate (Matric)
  • Be currently unemployed
  • Not have participated in a YES programme before
  • Be a South African citizen of African, Coloured, or Indian descent, with a valid South African ID
  • Be proficient in English (both written and spoken)
  • Have basic computer knowledge
  • Be willing to work 8-hour shifts, including weekends and public holidays if required

It’s a bonus if you can communicate in any other South African language.

Where You Will Work

This learnership is fully onsite at Nedbank Park Square Campus, Umhlanga Rocks, Durban North. As the programme provides a monthly stipend instead of a full salary, applicants are encouraged to live within a 30–35 km radius to manage transport costs and maintain punctuality.

Suggested residential areas include:

North of Umhlanga: Umhlanga Ridge, Umhlanga Rocks, La Lucia, Mount Edgecombe, Sibaya Coastal Precinct, Tongaat, KwaMashu, Phoenix

Central Durban & Surrounds: Durban North, Glen Anil, Morningside, Berea, Overport, Sydenham, Greyville

Western Suburbs: Westville, Pinetown, Queensburgh, Reservoir Hills, New Germany, Escombe

Living close by ensures you can attend work consistently, on time, and make the most of this learning opportunity.
