If you believe in working hard, having fun while doing it, and leading teams to success, then this opportunity may be exactly what you have been waiting for.

What It Means to Be a Dynamo at PEP

PEP Dynamos are people who care deeply about their work and their teams. They take ownership, support one another, and focus on creating solutions that truly work. As the Manager of the Security Control Room, you will play a major role in protecting people, property, and operations across the business.

This position sits at the heart of PEP’s physical security operations and requires someone who can lead with confidence, stay calm under pressure, and make strong decisions when it matters most.

Understanding the Role of Manager: Security Control Room

Leading the Security Operations Centre

The main responsibility of this role is to lead and manage how the Security Operations Centre (SOC) works. You will guide the SOC team on how to monitor, identify, analyse, report, and respond to security incidents across the business.

You will also provide oversight of Field Security Operations and Client Service Delivery. This ensures that all service outcomes are achieved and that service level agreements are met consistently.

This is a senior role that combines leadership, technical knowledge, and strong people management skills.

Core Responsibilities You Will Be Accountable For

Managing the SOC Team

You will oversee the day-to-day activities of the SOC Operator team. This includes ensuring that team members are properly trained, certified, and supported in their roles. You will also make sure that performance management processes are followed and that discipline is handled fairly and professionally when required.

Monitoring Physical Security Systems

You will be responsible for first-line monitoring and management of all systems within the Physical Security Operations Centre. This includes keeping a close eye on alarms, cameras, and monitoring platforms to detect incidents such as attempted burglaries or other security risks.

Incident Detection and Investigation

When incidents occur, you will lead the investigation process. This includes investigating every positive incident using RCAT, closing out findings properly, and ensuring that steps are taken to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

You will communicate investigation outcomes clearly to the team and initiate corrective or disciplinary actions where needed.

Improving Systems and Service Levels

Process and System Enhancements

A key part of this role is identifying areas for improvement. You will recommend and implement system and procedural changes that improve service delivery, response times, and overall security performance.

Your input will directly impact how efficiently and effectively the security function operates.

Reporting and Analysis

You will compile month-end reports, statistics, and analysis for the control room. These reports will be presented at senior management meetings and used to guide decision-making at leadership level.

Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking are critical in this area.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Education and Certifications

To qualify for this role, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Diploma in Management or a Diploma in a security-related qualification (NQF Level 5)
  • PSIRA Grade A certification
  • Security Systems Certificate

Work Experience

  • 5 to 7 years of experience working in a control room environment
  • At least 7 years of experience in a supervisory or management role, leading teams
  • Proven experience in drafting procedures and work instructions
  • Strong background in training and guiding others
  • Experience working with Patriot systems, including monitoring and system management

Skills and Knowledge That Will Set You Apart

PEP is looking for someone who is confident, capable, and emotionally strong. You should have:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong emotional intelligence and resilience in stressful situations
  • Good working knowledge of Google applications
  • Solid understanding of incident management processes
  • A good grasp of system networks and how security systems interact
  • Willingness to work shifts if required and travel when needed

Competencies That Matter Most in This Role

To succeed as the Manager: Security Control Room, you must demonstrate:

  • High accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to perform under pressure
  • Strong structuring and planning skills
  • Drive, initiative, and integrity
  • Excellent listening and feedback skills
  • Ability to analyse information and form sound opinions
  • Strong situational awareness at all times

Why This Opportunity Is Worth Your Attention

This role offers more than just a job title. It gives you the chance to lead a critical function within a major retail organisation, influence security strategy, and build a strong, capable team.

If you are an experienced security professional who enjoys leadership, problem-solving, and making a real impact, the PEP Manager: Security Control Room position could be the next big step in your career journey.
