What You’ll Do as an Assistant Store Manager

As an Assistant Store Manager, your job is to support the Store Manager and make sure everything in the store runs smoothly — especially when the manager is not around.

Here’s what your main duties will include:

  • Help Manage Staff: Support and motivate the team, and help manage performance.
  • Cash & Banking: Handle banking, oversee the cash office, and ensure daily cash-ups are accurate.
  • Store Standards: Keep the store clean, organized, and looking great — from shelves to stockrooms.
  • Prevent Stock Loss: Help reduce shrinkage by following procedures and ensuring staff compliance.
  • Customer Service: Make sure customers get the best service possible and return for more.
  • Sales & Targets: Introduce new ways to boost sales and hit store goals.
  • Follow Rules: Make sure all company policies and rules are followed — from the front end to the back.

This is a hands-on role, so be prepared to lead by example and get involved in every part of the store’s day-to-day running.


Minimum Requirements to Apply

To be considered for this role, you’ll need:

  • Matric / Grade 12 (Mathematics will be a bonus) or an NQF Level 4 qualification
  • Previous experience managing people
  • Experience managing a department in retail
  • Clothing retail experience will give you a major advantage
  • Ability to plan, organize, and make decisions fast
  • Strong communication skills — both spoken and written
  • A good handle on admin work
  • The ability to stay productive, focused, and energetic during busy store hours
