What This Job Is About

The DTHF is looking to hire four (4) Research Assistants for an 8-week fixed-term contract starting on 1 September 2025. This role focuses on citation reviewing and data extraction.

In simple terms, your job will be to:

Review a set list of academic citations.
Download and read full research papers.
Extract key details and information.
Enter the data neatly into an Excel spreadsheet.

You’ll be expected to complete around 60 papers per week, working 27–30 hours weekly, at a pay rate of R215 per hour. The work can be done at the DTHF headquarters in Woodstock or remotely, as long as you have a stable internet connection.

Key Responsibilities

As a Research Assistant, you’ll be responsible for:

Downloading assigned academic papers based on given citations.
Reading and extracting important data points according to the project’s needs.
Recording information in a structured Excel spreadsheet.
Keeping track of your weekly progress (about 60 papers).
Meeting deadlines while working flexibly.
Reporting to the project lead if you face challenges.
Ensuring that all collected data is accurate and ready for review.

What You Need to Qualify

To be successful in this role, you should have:

A background in biology, medicine, psychology, or a related field.
An Honours or Master’s qualification (can be in progress).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
The ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
Solid Excel skills (especially data entry and spreadsheet management).
Knowledge of reference software like EndNote.
Experience accessing and downloading peer-reviewed research papers.
Strong written communication skills.
