Job Overview: Medical Management Consultant (24 Posts)

As a Medical Management Consultant, you will play a critical role in the claims process by ensuring all medical assessments, reports, and treatment approvals meet the RAF’s guidelines and standards.

This is not just a desk job – you will be directly involved in reviewing cases, analyzing medical costs, and supporting accident victims by making sure they receive the proper care they deserve.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Medical Management

  • Conduct medical assessments and prepare detailed injury reports.
  • Review submitted claims to ensure proper care levels, treatment quality, and hospital stay length.
  • Verify tariffs and treatment costs to control expenses and ensure they are fair and within RAF guidelines.
  • Approve claims based on RAF’s clinical guidelines, treatment protocols, and tariffs.
  • Identify and escalate complex cases for multi-disciplinary team reviews.
  • Participate in improving medical claims processes to make them faster and more efficient.

2. Handling Exceptions

  • Create and maintain a clear process for handling unusual cases.
  • Update all documentation regularly to keep processes smooth and transparent.
  • Implement strategies to deal with unexpected medical claim issues quickly and effectively.

3. Reporting

  • Prepare accurate reports to track progress and performance.
  • Identify and report emerging risks.
  • Create documents and presentations for process improvements.

4. Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints quickly and professionally.
  • Provide clear feedback to stakeholders about claim statuses.
  • Resolve issues and suggest corrective actions where needed.

Qualifications Needed

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Health Sciences or a Medical-related field.
  • Registration with HPCSA or SANCA (Health Professions Council of South Africa or South African Nursing Council).

Experience Required

  • At least 3 years of experience in a medical or healthcare environment.
  • Strong knowledge of claims management, medical case reviews, and treatment protocols.
