What You Will Be Doing (Your Main Duties)

As a Gate Guard, you’ll have a big role to play in keeping the park safe and welcoming. Here’s what you’ll be doing every day:

• Control who enters and leaves the park – only letting in people who are supposed to be there.
• Check visitor credentials – make sure guests, workers, and contractors have the right papers.
• Help visitors – give directions and friendly advice about the park.
• Stop illegal activities – prevent the removal of park property and make sure everyone follows the rules.
• Write down entries and exits – keep clear records of all staff and visitors.
• Help with minor tasks – such as cleaning the gate area and cutting grass.
• Handle small disagreements – in a calm and respectful way when people have issues at the gate.
• Make the entrance welcoming – by keeping it neat and giving a good first impression.

What You Need to Qualify (Requirements)

To be considered for this job, here’s what you must have:

• Matric / Grade 12 certificate
• Completed Ranger Fitness Program (a test to make sure you’re physically ready)
• Experience in conservation or guarding/security – this is a bonus but not a must.
• Basic Field Ranger Training – also a bonus.
• Knowledge of park rules and conservation laws
• You must be healthy and ready to do a medical exam
• Good communication skills
• Must be ready to live inside the park (official accommodation is provided).

Salary and Benefits

• This job is graded at Paterson Grade B1
• You will get a basic salary and extra benefits, including housing inside the park
