The South African Police Service (SAPS) is inviting unemployed graduates and students to apply for the Graduate Recruitment Scheme for 2025/2026. This exciting 12-month internship programme is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while contributing to the safety and development of communities across South Africa.
Applications are now open and will close on the following dates:
Gauteng: 12 September 2025
All Other Provinces: 18 September 2025
There are opportunities available in all nine provinces, and interns will receive a monthly stipend as determined by the Divisional Commissioner for Human Resource Development (stipend amounts vary by province).

About the SAPS Graduate Internship Programme
The SAPS Graduate Recruitment Scheme is part of South Africa’s National Human Resource Development Strategy and National Skills Development Strategy.
The aim of this programme is to give young people the opportunity to:
Gain real-world work experience in different SAPS units.
Build practical skills that will make them more employable.
Play a role in strengthening law enforcement and community safety.
Internships are available in areas such as:
Human Resources (HRM/HRD)
Finance and Supply Chain Management
Legal Services (LLB)
Social Work and Psychology
Detective Services and Crime Prevention
Operational Crime Analysis
IT and Technology Management Services
Sports Management
Communication and Marketing
Motor Mechanics (Petrol/Diesel)
Sound and Video Production
Library and Information Science
Who Can Apply
To qualify for the SAPS internship, you must meet the following criteria:
Be a South African citizen with a valid South African ID.
Have a Matric certificate (NSC) or NCV Level 4.
Be unemployed and have never worked in the field of the advertised post.
Never have participated in any other internship programme.
Reside in the province where you are applying.
Have no criminal record or pending criminal cases.
You may apply for up to three posts, but a separate application form must be completed for each.
Internship Categories
SAPS offers two main categories of internships:
Graduate Interns:
For those who have completed a tertiary qualification (Diploma or Degree, NQF Level 6 or higher).
Qualification must be recorded on the National Learners’ Records Database (NLRD).
Student Interns:
For students who need in-service or experiential learning to complete their qualification.
Must provide a letter from their institution, not older than two years.
The stipend for each internship varies and is set by the Divisional Commissioner for Human Resource Development. While the exact amount may differ by province, all participants will receive monthly financial support for the duration of the 12-month programme.

Shortlisted candidates will undergo fingerprint screening, vetting, and interviews.
Only successful candidates will be contacted within four months after the closing date.
Selected applicants must sign a 12-month internship contract.
Participation does not guarantee permanent employment within SAPS.
