Are you looking for a full-time job in retail and have at least a Grade 12 certificate? Shoprite, one of South Africa’s biggest supermarket chains, is giving you the chance to join their team as a Buyers Assistant. If you’re someone who pays attention to details, loves working with numbers, and enjoys helping teams reach their goals, then this job could be a perfect fit for you.

This opportunity is based in South Africa and comes with permanent employment. It’s not just another admin job—this role is key in helping Shoprite’s Foods Buying Team meet their business goals. Let’s break it down so you know exactly what you’ll be doing and how to apply.

What Does a Buyers Assistant at Shoprite Do?

As a Buyers Assistant, your main role is to support the Buyer and the Buying Team. That means you’ll help make sure that all products are ordered correctly, prices are captured accurately, and that any problems related to products, suppliers, or stores are fixed fast.

Here are some things you’ll be doing day to day:

  • Make sure the correct prices are loaded into the system so that stock can be ordered easily.
  • Double-check that the cost and selling prices are right, especially when new product groups are set up.
  • Capture and update retail prices and mark downs.
  • Fix any store problems like stock not arriving or barcode issues.
  • Help the team with stock availability and placing orders.
  • Make sure new products are added correctly and that the distribution center (DC) knows when they’re coming.
  • Update the system when products are removed or discontinued.
  • Keep all paperwork organized, including invoices and supplier details.
  • Prepare reports for the Buyer to review.
  • Keep an eye on performance and help fix any issues quickly.

What Do You Need to Qualify?

To apply for this role, here’s what you need:

  • Grade 12 certificate (Matric) – This is a must.
  • At least 1 year of experience doing similar work in a buying or planning team.
  • Experience using MS Office 365, especially Excel. You should know how to use formulas and create spreadsheets.
  • Some experience working in a retail environment.
  • It’s also helpful if you’ve worked with SAP Buying or Retail systems before.

This role is perfect for someone who:

  • Is super organized.
  • Can work fast but still be accurate.
  • Loves working with data and solving problems.
  • Enjoys being part of a team.
