What is a Technical Assistant at Shoprite?

As a Technical Assistant, you will be part of the technical team that keeps Shoprite’s buildings and equipment working smoothly. This includes checking for problems, doing regular maintenance, and helping out when things break down. You’ll also give advice on fixing or replacing old equipment and report anything unsafe to your manager.

This is a full-time, permanent job, and you’ll be reporting to the Technical Manager. You’ll work both indoors and outdoors, and sometimes after hours if there’s an emergency.

What Will You Be Doing?

Every day will be different in this job. Here’s what your tasks will include:

• Checking the condition of buildings and equipment and reporting problems to the Technical Manager.
• Fixing maintenance issues quickly and professionally.
• Making sure your workspace stays clean and safe.
• Telling your manager about anything risky or dangerous you find.
• Driving to pick up or deliver tools and equipment.
• Towing and filling diesel for generators when needed.
• Following safety rules and company policies at all times.
• Attending training sessions and safety meetings.
• Keeping track of repairs and materials used.
• Doing extra tasks when asked.
• Being on standby for after-hours emergencies.

What You Need to Apply

You don’t need to have every qualification, but having these will help you stand out:

Education:

• You should have finished Grade 12 or Matric – this is highly recommended.
• Having certificates in technical maintenance or OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) is a bonus.

Work Experience:

• You must have at least 1 year of experience doing property or building maintenance.
• You should know how to work with electrical and mechanical systems, as well as aircons, plumbing, and structural repairs.
• Experience in shopping centres, office parks, or big buildings is a big plus.

Other Requirements:

• You must have a valid EB driver’s license.
• You need to be ready to travel on short notice when the job requires.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Excel is helpful.
