Main Purpose of the Security Official Position

The main purpose of this role is to protect and safeguard SARB personnel, facilities, and assets at the Cape Town Office. Security Officials are responsible for ensuring that the workplace remains safe, controlled, and free from unauthorised access or threats.

This role requires individuals who can stay calm under pressure and respond correctly during emergencies.

Key Duties and Daily Responsibilities

Security Officials at SARB are expected to perform a wide range of security and safety duties. These responsibilities ensure the protection of the facility under all conditions, including normal operations and emergency situations.

Key responsibilities include:

Conducting access and exit control at all entry and exit points
Guarding and patrolling the premises to prevent unauthorised activities
Escorting staff, visitors, and assets when required
Identifying, responding to, and reporting all security threats or suspicious activity
Monitoring security systems, alarms, signals, and equipment
Ensuring all security equipment is used correctly and remains in working condition
Performing evacuations and participating in emergency drills when required
Responding to emergencies quickly and in line with SARB procedures

These duties require alertness, physical readiness, and a strong understanding of security protocols.

Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities

In addition to physical security duties, this role also includes important administrative tasks. Accurate reporting is essential in a controlled environment like SARB.

Administrative duties include:

Writing detailed security reports
Completing electronic occurrence books and pocketbooks
Recording incidents, patrols, and unusual events correctly
Following internal reporting procedures at all times

Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required

Applicants must have:

Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
Valid PSIRA Grade C registration
Firearm competency certificates for a 9mm pistol, semi-automatic rifle, and shotgun
At least two to five years of experience in a security environment
Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including:
- National Key Points Act 102 of 1980
- Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000
- Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977
Understanding of SARB policies, procedures, and firearm use instructions
