What This Job is About

As a Cashier at Spar, your main role is to give customers a great shopping experience at the till. You’ll be responsible for greeting people, scanning items, taking payments, and sometimes helping with other tasks like unpacking stock or keeping your area clean.

The company is looking for friendly, responsible people who can stay calm when it’s busy and help customers with a smile. You must be able to work well with others and follow instructions carefully.

What You’ll Do Each Day

Here are some of the main tasks you’ll be expected to do during your shifts:

Welcome customers in a warm and friendly way.
Suggest promotions or discounts to help increase sales.
Answer customer questions or concerns and let the manager know about any serious issues.
Use a cash register or point-of-sale (POS) system to scan and total orders.
Accept payments by cash, debit card, or credit card.
Count your till, balance cash, and manage receipts during your shift.
Pack groceries neatly into bags or boxes.
Help unpack and check new stock when it arrives.
Keep your till and checkout area clean and organised at all times.
Work as part of a team to keep everything running smoothly.
Follow company policies and safety rules at all times.

What You Need to Apply

You don’t need any fancy qualifications or years of experience to apply. But there are a few minimum requirements:

You must have passed Matric (Grade 12).
You should be able to read, write, and speak English clearly.
You need to live within 15km of the store where you’ll be working.
You must have a clear criminal record.

It’s a Bonus If You Also Have:

Past experience working as a cashier or in retail.
Experience using a cash register or POS system.
Be between 18 and 35 years old.
South African citizenship.

Even if you don’t meet all the preferences, you’re still encouraged to apply.
