The Tolcon Group Patrol Driver/Staff Driver Vacancies – Closing Date: 20 October 2025

The Tolcon Group is looking for dedicated and responsible individuals to join their team as Patrol Drivers/Staff Drivers along the N4 Highway. This position is a vital part of keeping South Africa’s roads safe and operational. If you live in Brits, Ga-Rankuwa, or Mmakau, this opportunity could be the perfect fit for you. Please note that only applicants from these areas will be considered, and proof of residence is required.

About the Role

As a Patrol Driver, you will be responsible for patrolling the N4 Highway, responding to incidents, and ensuring the safety of all road users. This job goes beyond driving — it’s about protecting lives, preventing accidents, and maintaining the smooth flow of traffic. You’ll report directly to the Route Service Supervisor and work both on the road and outdoors in all weather conditions.

The ideal candidate is alert, calm under pressure, and passionate about road safety. This is a hands-on position where no two days are ever the same — from clearing debris to assisting stranded motorists, your quick actions could make a real difference.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll handle a range of duties focused on road safety, maintenance, and emergency response. Your main tasks will include:

  • Conducting two highway patrol trips per shift to monitor road conditions.
  • Removing obstacles and debris from the road to ensure safe travel.
  • Reporting damaged or missing road signs, fencing, or pavements.
  • Responding quickly to vehicle accidents and breakdowns.
  • Assisting stranded motorists and helping to reopen roads safely after incidents.
  • Taking photographs and detailed notes on all road damages or incidents.
  • Ensuring shift handover reports and vehicle inspection forms are completed.
  • Keeping the patrol vehicle clean, maintained, and ready for operation.
  • Assisting with wildlife data collection and removal of roadkill as part of environmental duties.
  • Safely transporting passengers, staff, and mail between plazas and the head office.
  • Setting up traffic management measures at accident scenes.
  • Communicating with the control and communications office during incidents.
  • Providing detailed updates about the number of lanes, vehicles, and injuries involved in accidents.
  • Handing over control to emergency services once they arrive on scene.
  • Completing all incident forms, taking photos, and assisting in managing traffic flow after accidents.

This job is crucial to ensuring the smooth operation of the N1/N4 Platinum Highway, helping keep thousands of road users safe every day.

Qualifications and Skills Required

To qualify for the Patrol Driver/Staff Driver position, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 10, 11, or 12 (Matric).
  • A valid Code 08 driver’s license with PDP (Professional Driving Permit) – this is non-negotiable.
  • At least 2 years of continuous experience as a professional driver.
  • Excellent English communication skills, plus the ability to speak one other language.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Must be assertive, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
  • Knowledge of road assets and basic mechanical understanding of vehicles.
  • Physically fit and able to work on rotating shifts and handle outdoor work in all weather conditions.

You will spend most of your time in a patrol vehicle or outdoors, which means you must be prepared for a physically demanding environment.
