What is the Shoprite Retail Readiness Programme (RRP)?

The Shoprite Retail Readiness Programme is a job training course that helps young people get ready for work in the retail industry. Started in 2016, it’s already helped thousands of youth get the skills and confidence they need to start working, even if they’ve never had a job before.

It’s a seven-week program split into two parts:

• First 5 weeks: You get hands-on training inside a real Shoprite store. This is where you learn how the store works, what you’ll be doing on the job, and how to work with customers and team members.
• Final 2 weeks: You attend classroom lessons where you’ll learn theory—like customer service, workplace communication, and basic retail math.

At the end of the course, you receive a National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 3 certificate. This makes your CV stronger and improves your chances of getting hired—not just by Shoprite, but by many other companies too.

This program is made for South African youth, especially those who are finding it hard to get a job.
