Toyota Maintenance Learnership Programme for unemployed youth

Toyota invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Maintenance Learnership Programme for unemployed youth. The closing date for applications is 19 December 2025. This is an exciting chance for young South Africans who want to build a successful career in the automotive manufacturing industry. If you have the right passion, interest in engineering, and want practical skills that can help you grow, this programme could be a great opportunity.

Build Your Career Through the Toyota Learnership Programme

The Toyota Maintenance Learnership is designed to give real workplace experience to learners who are not yet employed. This programme allows participants to learn while working, meaning you will gain both practical and theoretical knowledge. By the end of the learnership, successful candidates will receive an NQF Level 3 qualification, which is recognized in the industry and can help open more career doors.

What This Learnership Offers

During the programme, learners will spend time in different parts of the manufacturing and production environment. You will be trained by experienced professionals and get hands-on exposure to tasks that real technicians and production specialists perform daily. Learners will be involved in key activities such as production support, maintenance, inspections, and continuous improvement tasks. The programme is designed to help individuals grow their skills while learning in a structured and supportive environment.

Skills and Learning Areas You Will Develop

Learners who join this Toyota programme will be exposed to multiple training modules, including:

Working in a Team Environment

Modern manufacturing requires teamwork. Learners will be trained on communication, cooperation, and how to support team goals. Understanding teamwork is important because production success depends on groups working together smoothly.

Learning About Safety and Hand Tools

Safety training is one of the most important parts of the learnership. Toyota focuses strongly on safe working methods. You will learn how to use hand tools correctly, how to prevent accidents, and how to work safely in a busy industrial environment.

Assembly and Manufacturing Skills

Participants will learn how products are assembled in a production line, how components are fitted, and how to understand and follow technical drawings. You will also learn marking-off techniques, welding basics, and other technical manufacturing skills.

Operating and Monitoring Production Machines

Many production processes depend on machines operating correctly. Learners will be trained on how to run machines, detect faults, and monitor quality during production. This type of experience is valuable because it teaches how to handle real equipment used in factories.

Preparing Surfaces and Product Dispatch

Surface preparation is an important part of manufacturing. Learners will also learn the processes followed when products are prepared, finished, packaged, and dispatched to customers or other areas of the business.

Fire Fighting and Safety Response

In addition to general safety, Toyota ensures that learners are prepared for emergency situations. Basic firefighting training is included. This helps learners understand workplace risks and how to act if something goes wrong.

Applicant Requirements

To qualify for this learnership, applicants must meet the minimum educational requirements. These include:

  • A National Technical Certificate (N3 to N6), or
  • A Matric or Technical Matric that includes subjects such as:
    • Mathematics
    • Physical Science or Engineering Science
    • Electrical Trade Theory or Mechanical Trade Theory
    • Motor Trade Theory
    • Mechanical Drawing or Graphical Design

These subjects help prepare applicants for the technical training involved in the programme.

Personal Competencies

Toyota is looking for individuals who are motivated and willing to learn. Some of the personal qualities they look for include:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Good planning and organizing abilities
  • Adaptability in different working conditions
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving
  • Able to gather and understand information accurately
  • Determination and perseverance

In a fast-paced production environment, these qualities help learners succeed and grow.

A Qualification and Pathway Forward

At the end of the learnership, successful participants will be awarded an NQF Level 3 qualification. This formal certification shows that you have completed structured training and have the skills to contribute in a technical manufacturing environment. Many learners go on to further training, apprenticeships, or full-time employment in the automotive sector.

Take the Next Step

If you are a young South African passionate about engineering and eager to grow practical skills, this programme could change your career future. Make sure you submit your application before 19 December 2025 and take your first step into a world of real industrial learning and personal development.
