Be Part of South Africa’s Rail Infrastructure Team

The Transnet Infrastructure Division is at the heart of keeping the nation’s rail systems strong and reliable. The Infra Worker positions are designed to help with maintenance and construction projects, ensuring rail tracks remain safe and functional.

This opportunity runs from 1 November 2025 to 30 November 2025 — a one-month contract based in Devon KM 43, Gauteng, under the Track Engineering Works Department. Successful applicants will report to the Site Supervisor and work alongside experienced construction teams.

With 40 posts available, Transnet is offering a great way for unemployed individuals to gain valuable hands-on experience and improve their chances of securing future employment in South Africa’s growing infrastructure and engineering sectors.

Job Purpose

The main goal of the Infra Worker position is to assist the RNC Construction Teams with track maintenance and building work. You’ll be part of a team that ensures all construction and maintenance tasks are done safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

This is a hands-on role that requires physical effort, teamwork, and attention to detail — perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors and being part of something that keeps the country moving.

Minimum Requirements

To apply for the Transnet Infra Worker positions, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum Grade 9 qualification or 6 months of relevant work experience.
  • Physically fit (medical fitness test required).
  • Alert and safety-conscious at all times.
  • Able to communicate clearly in English.
  • Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Ready to work long hours or on short notice when required.
  • Willing to relocate or work outside your home depot.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces or at heights.
  • Must have a strong commitment to health and safety rules.
  • Able to work in low-noise environments.

If you enjoy physical work and have a positive, reliable attitude, you already have what it takes to succeed in this role.

Daily Responsibilities

As a Transnet Infra Worker, you’ll perform a variety of important duties each day, including:

  • Following instructions from your Supervisor or Team Leader.
  • Arriving on time and maintaining professional, sober habits.
  • Loading and offloading materials safely.
  • Cleaning and maintaining work areas — removing weeds, stacking tools, sweeping, and disposing of rubble.
  • Safely using hand tools (non-mechanised) in a construction setting.
  • Ensuring tools and equipment are cleaned and maintained after use.

These daily activities keep work sites safe and efficient, ensuring that Transnet’s infrastructure projects stay on track.
