Transnet is offering an amazing opportunity for Trainee Cargo Coordinators. If you’re chosen, you’ll be trained to safely and effectively manage cargo activities like loading, unloading, stacking, checking containers, and recording everything on the system. It’s a role that’s crucial to keeping South Africa’s goods moving, whether by train or truck.

Even if you don’t have experience, don’t worry! As long as you’ve got Grade 12 (Matric), a good attitude, and are ready to learn, you can apply.

📋 Here’s What You’ll Be Doing

If you get the job, here are some of the exciting things you’ll be doing every day:

✅ Checking Incoming Trains

  • Physically inspect containers, seal numbers, and wagons.
  • Make sure trains are safely positioned for unloading.
  • Record container info using a handheld terminal (HHT).
  • Report any damage or problems immediately.

✅ Checking Outgoing Trains

  • Inspect empty wagons and check their details.
  • Help plan which containers go on which wagons.
  • Watch over the safe loading process and update all info on the system.

✅ Stack & Organize Containers

  • Help with stacking containers properly and safely.
  • Use a yard report or handheld device to keep track of where everything is.
  • Make sure containers are safe and undamaged.

✅ In-Gate Checks (For Trucks)

  • Check documents from drivers and inspect the containers.
  • Direct drivers to the correct places in the yard.
  • Help with delivering or picking up cargo.

✅ Operate the Weighbridge

  • Make sure trucks are weighed correctly and details are recorded.
  • Double-check all information matches what’s in the system.

✅ Out-Gate Checks

  • Make sure everything’s correct before a truck leaves.
  • Inspect containers one last time.
  • Record and report any issues right away.

🎓 What You Need To Apply

📘 Education:

  • Matric (Grade 12) is a must.

🧠 Training:

  • Be willing to go through Cargo Coordinator training.

🏥 Health:

  • Be ready for medical checkups to make sure you’re physically and mentally fit for the job.
  • You’ll also do safety training and behaviour checks.
