Key Responsibilities

As a Library Assistant, you’ll be doing important work like:

  • Helping students and staff with borrowing, returning, and accessing materials (circulation, short loans, interlibrary loans, etc.)
  • Assisting users with basic cataloguing and searching library databases
  • Offering in-person and virtual support to people needing help with library services
  • Supporting the research services team by locating resources and information
  • Helping maintain and develop the collection of books, journals, and digital material
  • Taking part in exciting library marketing and promotional projects

This isn’t just a desk job—you’ll be engaging with people daily, answering questions, solving problems, and making learning smoother for everyone.


Minimum Requirements to Apply

To qualify for this role, you’ll need:

  • A Bachelor of Library & Information Science, or another relevant library qualification
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a library (preferably a university or research library)

If you just finished your degree and had library exposure during your studies, it’s still worth applying!


What Skills Will Help You Stand Out

UWC is looking for someone who is:

  • Comfortable with library user services
  • Able to work well alone and in a team
  • Skilled in MS Office 365
  • Familiar with library management systems and databases
  • Interested or experienced in open science tools and concepts
