What is the TMPD Metro Police Training Programme?

The TMPD Training Programme is a full-time course designed for young South Africans who want to become Metro Police Officers in the City of Tshwane. For 18 months, selected trainees will receive practical and classroom training in three main areas:

  • Traffic Policing (enforcing road laws)
  • Municipal By-Law Enforcement (keeping our communities clean and safe)
  • Crime Prevention (stopping crime before it happens)

After the training, successful candidates will be ready to work as professional Metro Police Officers, playing a key role in maintaining law and order in Tshwane.


Who Can Apply?

To apply, you must meet all the following requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen living in Tshwane (proof of residence is required)
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Have a Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
  • Have a manual driving license (Code 08/B)
  • Be medically fit (with a valid medical certificate)
  • Be mentally fit and able to do physical exercises
  • No criminal record or any ongoing cases
  • Not listed on the sexual or child offenders register
  • Never dismissed from a government job due to bad behaviour
  • Be fluent in English
  • Have no visible tattoos while wearing the uniform
  • Be willing to follow the rules and sign TMPD’s code of conduct
  • Be ready to pass fitness and psychometric tests
