AFGRI Is Hiring 20 Apprentices – No Experience Needed!

AFGRI Invites Young, Motivated Individuals to Apply for Their 2025 Apprenticeship Programme (X20 Posts). The Closing Date for Applications is 10 October 2025.

Are you ready to roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, and build a strong future? If you’re passionate about working with machines, solving real problems, and learning from the best, then this is your moment.

AFGRI Equipment, one of South Africa’s leading agricultural service providers, is now looking for 20 hardworking individuals to join their Apprenticeship Programme for 2025. Whether you dream of becoming a Tractor Mechanic or an Earthmoving Technician, this is your chance to gain real-world experience, learn from professionals, and grow into a skilled artisan — all while getting paid.

This is not just another training programme. It’s your opportunity to step into a career that can change your life.

What Is This Apprenticeship All About?

This is a 3-year training programme offered by AFGRI at various branches across South Africa. You’ll learn through:

  • Hands-on work experience in real workshops
  • Technical theory through distance learning (and even Saturday classes!)
  • Product training at the John Deere Training Centre in Boksburg
  • Mentorship from experienced professionals

For the first 6 months, you’ll go through a probation period. This helps both you and the company decide if this is the right long-term match. After that, you’ll officially become an apprentice and begin your formal training journey.

This programme is structured to qualify you as a Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Mechanic.

What Will You Be Doing?

During the apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to:

  • Repair and maintain tractors and heavy-duty equipment
  • Assist with stock control
  • Deliver customer service
  • Handle general duties in the workplace
  • Understand and follow workshop safety rules

You won’t just be watching—you’ll be doing real work, solving real problems, and gaining real skills.

What Do You Need to Apply?

To apply for this opportunity, you’ll need:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Good communication and admin skills
  • Basic computer literacy
  • N2 qualification with the following subjects:
    • Mathematics
    • Engineering Science
    • Diesel Trade Theory
    • One of these extra subjects:
      • Industrial Electronics
      • Technical Drawing / Engineering Drawing
      • Motor Trade Theory

Don’t have an N2?
No problem — if you’ve passed Matric with key subjects, you might still qualify. These include:

  • Mathematics or Technical Mathematics (Not Maths Literacy) – 40% or E symbol
  • Physical or Technical Science – 40% or E symbol
  • Engineering Graphics and Design – 40% or E symbol

Still don’t meet those requirements?
AFGRI may sponsor your N2 subjects as part of the programme!

What Kind of Person Is AFGRI Looking For?

AFGRI is looking for individuals who are:

  • Motivated and eager to learn
  • Detail-oriented and careful
  • Team players
  • Goal-driven and focused on success
  • Able to meet deadlines and handle pressure

You don’t need work experience — just the right attitude and the willingness to grow.

What Happens After You Apply?

  • You’ll be asked to complete screening and assessment questions.
  • If successful, you’ll receive an email with further instructions.
  • Be prepared for an interview and possible assessments.

This apprenticeship is a 3-year contract, but it can’t be extended for more than 4 years. If you fail training or withdraw early, there might be costs involved — so it’s important to be committed.

  • Get paid to train
  • Work with cutting-edge equipment
  • Receive training from industry leaders
  • Learn from John Deere-certified specialists
