Are you someone who’s serious about safety and loves being part of a team? Bidvest Tank Terminals is looking for seven new Safety Watch team members to join their SHEP (Safety, Health, Environment & Protection) department in Durban. You’ll be reporting to the Safety Watch Charge Hand – basically your team leader – and you’ll be responsible for keeping work environments safe, especially where dangerous chemicals are stored.

This job is about making sure that everything is done by the book, especially when workers enter tight or risky spaces. You’ll be the person who keeps an eye on things and stops the job if something goes wrong.

Who Can Apply?

✅ Grade 12 / Matric certificate (that’s your high school pass)
✅ At least 2 years of experience in a similar job
✅ 2 years of experience working in a place where chemicals are stored or made

What You’ll Do on the Job

This isn’t a desk job — you’ll be on your feet, staying alert, and making sure everyone around you stays safe. Here’s a breakdown of your daily duties:

👷‍♂️ Keep an eye on workers doing confined space work (like tanks and tight areas)
📝 Make sure safety rules are followed before anyone enters these spaces
🔍 Check the area to make sure there’s no risk of fire or chemical leaks
📄 Make sure every risky task has the right paperwork and permits
🚫 Spot any dangers or problems before they turn serious
🚨 Act fast in unsafe or emergency situations
🧪 Help with gas testing and risk checks
🛑 Stop the work if something becomes too risky
🔥 Use firefighting gear like hoses and extinguishers if needed
🧯 Keep flammable stuff far away from heat or sparks
🗣️ Stay in constant contact with your team
❤️‍🩹 Give basic first aid when someone gets hurt
🧹 Make sure the area is clean and safe after work is done
🧰 Return emergency gear to its correct place after use
