What Does a Clinic Receptionist Do?
As a Clinic Receptionist, you’ll play a vital role in the smooth running of the clinic. You’ll be the first point of contact for patients — both in person and on the phone — and you’ll help schedule appointments, keep patient records accurate, and make sure everything runs smoothly in the clinic.
You’ll support both patients and healthcare professionals, helping to ensure a high-quality care experience for every visitor.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this position, you must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Good communication skills
- The ability to stay calm under pressure
- A friendly and professional manner
Key Responsibilities
Here’s what you’ll be doing each day:
- Welcome and register patients following clinic procedures
- Help patients complete medical forms and assist with medical aid processing
- Answer telephone calls and assist with patient queries
- Schedule and manage appointments
- Keep records updated and secure
- Open new patient files and verify all personal details
- Monitor clinic supplies, stationery, and medical stock
- Make sure the reception area is neat and confidential
- Give patients information about the clinic process
- Take clear and correct messages from phone calls
- Help patients during emergency situations
- Guide patients through medical aid authorization procedures
- Follow up with patients and offer any needed feedback or assistance
- Greet visitors or delivery personnel and assist them in reaching the correct staff
- Answer general questions, such as area codes or staff contact numbers
- Maintain a calm, professional attitude, especially when things get busy

Dis-Chem is looking for someone who is:

Conditions of Employment
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must have a dedicated work station (you’ll be seated for most of the day)
- Must pass criminal and credit checks (MIE)
- Must have a driver’s license and/or own reliable transport
