What Is a Casual Cashier?

As a Casual Cashier at Dis-Chem, your job is to give customers a smooth and friendly checkout experience while sticking to company rules and keeping cash handling safe and accurate.

You’ll play a big part in making sure shoppers walk away happy — and you’ll also be helping one of South Africa’s most trusted pharmacy brands run smoothly.

Who Can Apply?

To be considered for the Casual Cashier talent pool, you need to meet these basic requirements:

Matric / Grade 12
At least 6 months’ experience working as a cashier
Computer skills (especially MS Office)
Good with numbers
Fluent in English
Willing to work retail hours (weekends, holidays, shifts)

If you speak a third language, that’s a big bonus too!

What Will You Be Doing?

Here’s what you can expect as part of the job:

Greet and assist customers at checkout
Process all payments (cash, card, vouchers, coupons, etc.)
Work with the Dis-Chem till system (accurately and carefully)
Handle loyalty cards and partner programs (eBucks, Momentum Multiply, etc.)
Handle refunds and merchandise exchanges when allowed
Report any customer issues or compliments to the manager
Follow the rules for handling money, security, and drop safes
Know about current sales and promotions
Keep the checkout area tidy and safe
Be alert to any suspicious behaviour
Stick to the hourly customer turnover goal
