Job Purpose

The main responsibility of a Laundry Assistant at CHG is to make sure there’s always enough clean and safe linen for all hospital departments. This involves washing, sorting, treating, and packing laundry according to strict health and safety standards.

Qualifications & Experience Needed

To qualify for this role, you must have:

• A qualification equivalent to NQF Level 5.
• 1–2 years of experience in laundry operations.
• Experience working in a private hospital environment (advantageous).

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As a Laundry Assistant, you will:

1. Follow Standards and Guidelines
   • Work according to Laundry, CHG, and Health & Safety standards.
   • Apply strict sanitation and infection control measures at all times.
2. Receive & Sort Laundry
   • Collect soiled linen and separate it according to type and level of contamination.
   • Treat linen according to hospital protocols before washing.
3. Wash, Dry, and Fold Linen
   • Operate laundry machinery safely and according to manufacturer instructions.
   • Ensure all linen and related items are washed, dried, and folded within daily targets.
4. Maintain Equipment & Work Area
   • Clean laundry machines and work areas regularly.
   • Report any faults or breakdowns to the Laundry Manager or shift team leader.
5. Track and Manage Stock
   • Keep accurate records of damaged or condemned linen.
   • Restock laundry supplies when needed.
6. Prepare Linen for Distribution
   • Pack and wrap clean linen for delivery, using clear and correct labels for identification.
