About the Role
As a Store Cleaner at Dis-Chem, you will play a key role in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for both customers and staff. You will be responsible for ensuring that every area of the store is spotless and meets Dis-Chem’s high hygiene standards.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Keeping the shop floor, stock room, dispensary, admin office, and canteen clean and organized.
- Ensuring that restrooms and communal areas are hygienic, stocked, and well-maintained.
- Using the correct cleaning products and equipment for each task.
- Placing wet floor signs when necessary to prevent accidents.
- Being available during store hours to clean up spills or messes as they occur.
- Following health and safety regulations while performing all cleaning duties.
- Providing friendly and professional customer service when needed.
This is a role where attention to detail, reliability, and pride in your work are extremely important.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this position, applicants must have:
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- At least 6 months of cleaning experience.
- Good English communication skills (written and spoken).
- Basic customer service skills.
- Knowledge of an additional local language is a plus.
- Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Advantageous:
- Being bilingual.
- Previous retail store cleaning experience.
Job Duties in Detail
A typical day in this role includes:
- Performing daily cleaning routines before the store opens.
- Making sure all areas are kept spotless throughout the day.
- Ensuring that the canteen, restrooms, and other communal areas are always clean and stocked.
- Using the correct cleaning tools and products for each area.
- Following proper safety procedures, including placing warning signs when floors are wet.
- Interacting with customers in a professional and friendly manner.
- Supporting the store team by keeping the environment safe and presentable.
