The Cleaning Area Manager will have several important duties. These include managing staff, checking operations, dealing with clients and making sure company rules are followed.

The successful applicant will make sure that attendance registers are completed every day at the beginning of each shift. They will also check that workers are allocated correctly and that any changes to attendance records are properly recorded.
The Area Manager will need to keep a close eye on staffing levels and make sure that sites have enough employees to provide the required cleaning service.
The Area Manager will be responsible for making sure company equipment is properly controlled and looked after.
Equipment must be managed according to the company’s fixed asset policies and procedures. Store orders must also be checked and authorised by the Regional Manager before being sent to the Stores Department on time.
This means the successful candidate needs to be organised and careful when dealing with company resources.
People management will be an important part of this position.
The Cleaning Area Manager will be expected to maintain discipline by following the company’s disciplinary code and procedures. They will also need to deal with employee grievances when they arise.
The manager must communicate clearly with employees and make sure they are informed about changes that affect them, including changes to company policies and procedures.
Daily messages and complaints must be handled quickly.
The successful candidate will need to respond to issues raised by clients, employees and management. Problems should not be ignored or allowed to continue for a long time.
The Area Manager will also carry out regular inspections at different cleaning sites to make sure the required standards are being maintained.
Client relationships are an important part of this job.
The Cleaning Area Manager will attend certain regular meetings with clients. When meeting minutes are required, the manager must make sure they are recorded and distributed to the relevant people.
Any problems raised during client meetings must receive prompt attention.
The manager will also be expected to submit call rosters to management and maintain good communication with clients.
The successful candidate will also be involved in employee performance management.
This includes giving verbal direction where needed and carrying out performance appraisals for supervisory employees and staff at higher levels.
The Area Manager will also handle authorised engagements, pay rate changes and dismissals. These actions must be approved by the Regional Manager, and all required documents must be completed correctly.
Company procedures relating to matters such as promotions and retrenchments must also be followed.
Cleaning operations can sometimes be affected by unexpected events. The Cleaning Area Manager will therefore need to prepare contingency plans for situations such as strikes and stay-aways.
Being prepared can help the company continue providing services while reducing disruption to clients and employees.
The role also requires someone who can think ahead, identify possible problems and take action before small issues become bigger ones.
The Area Manager will attend monthly Area Manager meetings with Regional Managers when required.
These meetings may cover issues such as:
The Cleaning Area Manager will also be responsible for holding monthly meetings with supervisory staff.
Meeting agendas must be submitted and minutes must be prepared and shared as required.
Health and safety are also an important part of this position.
The successful applicant will be responsible for making sure the area complies with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and any other relevant safety laws or regulations.
This means the manager must take workplace safety seriously and make sure employees and operations follow the required safety standards.
The Area Manager may also be required to investigate debtor queries with clients.
When instructed by Regional Managers or the Debtors Department, the successful candidate may need to collect cheques from clients.
The manager will also help promote the company’s full range of non-recurring business services, including special services that can provide additional business opportunities.
