🌍 About the Role
As a General Worker at The Tolcon Group, you’ll be working alongside a team that maintains one of South Africa’s busiest toll roads. Your role will primarily involve hands-on work, including road repairs, grass cutting, debris removal, and various other tasks that help keep the Bakwena N1N4 Toll Highway in top condition. You will also help ensure the safety of motorists and colleagues while on the job, including assisting in incident/accident situations along the highway.
Important to note: This is a physically demanding role that requires working in various weather conditions and traveling to different locations along the highway. You may be required to stay outside Pretoria for certain periods, so flexibility is a key part of the role.
📋 Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Traffic Accommodation & Safety: Ensuring the safety of workers and motorists during road works, including setting up traffic barriers.
- Road Surface Repairs: Fixing potholes and other damage on the road surface.
- Grass Cutting & Mowing: Maintaining the road reserves by clearing grass and debris.
- Tree Cutting & Fence Clearance: Removing trees and clearing fences along the roadside.
- Site Maintenance: Removing debris and other objects from the road surface and surrounding areas.
- Road Sign Installation: Fixing or replacing damaged road signs to ensure they are visible and functional.
- Digging & General Labour: Digging holes for posts or other road furniture.
- Vehicle & Equipment Cleaning: Washing and maintaining the company’s vehicles and equipment.
- Store Management: Moving stock and equipment, as well as performing general housekeeping in the store.
🧑🤝🧑 What You Need to Apply
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 10 (minimum)
- A Technical Qualification would be an advantage.
- At least one year of related experience in general labour, cleaning, and maintenance.
- Valid Code 08 Driver’s Licence for light motor vehicles (advantageous).
- Satisfactory oral and written communication skills in English.
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills to work effectively with a team.
- Physically fit and able to move heavy objects.
- Ability to use mechanical equipment such as a brush cutter, chainsaw, etc.
- Flexibility to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to travel and potentially stay outside Pretoria for certain periods.

- This is a full-time permanent position.
- You will be working overtime on occasion, especially during busy periods.
- The job is located throughout the Bakwena Toll Road, which spans over 380km.
- You may be required to travel and live outside Pretoria for certain tasks or periods.
- The work environment is primarily site-based, with some tasks taking place in a store.
- You will need to comply with safety procedures, including the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.
