What You Will Learn

The learnership is carefully designed to give you both theoretical and hands-on experience. You will:

  • Receive classroom-based training at CTC (Coal Technical College).
  • Gain on-the-job training at the mine under skilled artisans.
  • Complete competency-based modules and assessments.
  • Prepare for your trade test, which is essential to qualify as a certified artisan.

To successfully finish the programme, you must complete all training modules and pass the required assessments.

To qualify for these learnerships, you must have an N2 certificate with the correct subjects for the trade you are applying for.

1. Electrician

2. Fitter

  • Fitting & Turning Trade Theory

3. Instrumentation

  • Mathematics

  • Instrumentation Trade Theory

4. Plater (Boilermaker/Plater Fabrication)

  • Mathematics
  • Engineering Science
  • Plater Structural Steel Drawing
  • Plater Trade Theory

5. Rigger

  • Mathematics

  • Rigging Trade Theory

Tip: Make sure your N2 certificate clearly shows the correct subjects. If you are still waiting for final results, include proof or a statement of results.


Minimum Requirements

To apply, you must meet these criteria:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) and N2 Technical qualification with relevant trade subjects.
  • Good understanding of safety regulations and systems.
  • Willingness to work shifts, standby, and call-outs when needed.
  • Be medically fit and able to obtain a Certificate of Fitness.
  • A valid driver’s license will be an advantage.
